Using Braintree to route payments to franchisees

While BigCommerce does integrate with Braintree payment provider, we could not figure out how this integration works when the Braintree merchant account is using the Marketplace Service Provider Agreement to forward payments to the specific seller. Supposedly we have to use the Braintree Marketplace API to onboard the franchisees as sub-merchants (which is fine), but we could not find out if the out of box Braintree connector needs any adjustments to support the transactions.
